What do we use your data for?
Some of the data is collected to ensure error-free provision of the website. Other data may be used to analyse your user behaviour. If contracts can be concluded or initiated via the website, the data transmitted will also be processed for contract offers, orders or other requests.
What rights do you have regarding your data?
You have the right to receive information free of charge at any time about the origin, recipient and purpose of your stored personal data. You also have the right to request the rectification or erasure of this data. If you have given consent to data processing, you can revoke this consent at any time for the future. You also have the right, under certain circumstances, to request restriction of the processing of your personal data. Furthermore, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.
You can contact us at any time about this and other questions on the subject of data protection.

For the association’s email traffic we use Microsoft 365 provided by Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, Ireland (hereinafter “Microsoft”). When you send us an email, your message and the associated data (sender address, subject, content, time and technical connection data) are processed and stored on Microsoft servers. Microsoft primarily processes the data in data centres within the European Union. Processing in third countries, in particular the USA, cannot be entirely ruled out. Microsoft is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; the EU Commission’s standard contractual clauses apply in addition. For details, please refer to Microsoft’s privacy statement: https://privacy.microsoft.com/de-de/privacystatement.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We have a legitimate interest in reliable and secure email communication. If your enquiry relates to the initiation or performance of a contract or a donation, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR applies in addition. Your message remains with us until the purpose ceases to apply or you ask us to delete it; mandatory statutory retention periods remain unaffected.
Data processing agreements
We have concluded data processing agreements (DPAs) for the use of the services named above. These are contracts required by data protection law, which ensure that these providers process the personal data of our website visitors only in accordance with our instructions and in compliance with the GDPR.

Furthermore, we process your data if this is necessary to fulfil a legal obligation on the basis of Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR. Data processing may also be based on our legitimate interests pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Information on the relevant legal bases in each individual case is provided in the following sections of this privacy policy.
Recipients of personal data
In the course of our business activities, we work with various external parties. This may require the transfer of personal data to these external parties. We only pass on personal data to external parties if this is necessary for the performance of a contract, if we are legally obliged to do so (e.g. transfer of data to tax authorities), if we have a legitimate interest in the transfer pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR or if another legal basis permits the transfer. When using processors, we only pass on our customers’ personal data on the basis of a valid data processing agreement. In the case of joint processing, a joint processing agreement is concluded.
Revocation of your consent to data processing
Many processing operations are only possible with your express consent. You can revoke consent you have already given at any time. The lawfulness of processing carried out before revocation remains unaffected by the revocation.
Right to object to data collection in special cases and to direct marketing (Art. 21 GDPR)
IF DATA PROCESSING IS BASED ON ART. 6(1)(E) OR (F) GDPR, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO OBJECT AT ANY TIME, ON GROUNDS RELATING TO YOUR PARTICULAR SITUATION, TO PROCESSING OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA; THIS ALSO APPLIES TO PROFILING BASED ON THOSE PROVISIONS. THE RESPECTIVE LEGAL BASIS ON WHICH PROCESSING IS BASED CAN BE FOUND IN THIS PRIVACY POLICY. IF YOU OBJECT, WE WILL NO LONGER PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL DATA CONCERNED UNLESS WE CAN DEMONSTRATE COMPELLING LEGITIMATE GROUNDS FOR THE PROCESSING WHICH OVERRIDE YOUR INTERESTS, RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OR THE PROCESSING SERVES THE ESTABLISHMENT, EXERCISE OR DEFENCE OF LEGAL CLAIMS (OBJECTION PURSUANT TO ART. 21(1) GDPR).

The right to lodge a complaint is without prejudice to other administrative or judicial remedies.
Right to data portability
You have the right to have data that we process automatically on the basis of your consent or in performance of a contract handed over to you or to a third party in a commonly used, machine-readable format. Within the framework of the applicable legal provisions, you have the right at any time to free information about your stored personal data, its origin and recipient and the purpose of data processing and, if applicable, a right to rectification or erasure of this data. You can contact us at any time about this and other questions on the subject of personal data.
Right to restriction of processing
You have the right to request restriction of processing of your personal data. You can contact us at any time to do so. The right to restriction of processing exists in the following cases:
- If you dispute the accuracy of your personal data stored by us, we usually need time to verify this. For the duration of the review, you have the right to request restriction of processing of your personal data.
- If the processing of your personal data was/is unlawful, you can request restriction of data processing instead of erasure.
- If we no longer need your personal data, but you need it to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, you have the right to request restriction of processing of your personal data instead of erasure.
- If you have objected pursuant to Art. 21(1) GDPR, a balance must be struck between your interests and ours. As long as it is not yet clear whose interests prevail, you have the right to request restriction of processing of your personal data.
If you have restricted the processing of your personal data, such data may – apart from storage – only be processed with your consent or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims or for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person or for reasons of important public interest of the European Union or a Member State.
SSL or TLS encryption
This site uses SSL or TLS encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, such as orders or enquiries that you send to us as the site operator. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of the browser changes from “http://” to “https://” and by the lock symbol in your browser line.
If SSL or TLS encryption is activated, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.
Objection to promotional e-mails
We hereby object to the use of contact data published as part of our legal notice obligation for sending unsolicited advertising and information material. The operators of the pages expressly reserve the right to take legal action in the event of unsolicited promotional information, such as spam e-mails.
4. Data collection on this website
Cookies
Our websites use so-called “cookies”. Cookies are small data packets and do not cause any damage to your device. They are stored either temporarily for the duration of a session (session cookies) or permanently (persistent cookies) on your device. Session cookies are automatically deleted at the end of your visit. Persistent cookies remain stored on your device until you delete them yourself or automatic deletion is performed by your web browser.
Cookies may be set by us (first-party cookies) or by third-party companies (so-called third-party cookies). Third-party cookies enable the integration of certain services from third-party companies within websites (e.g. cookies for processing payment services).
Cookies have various functions. Many cookies are technically necessary because certain website functions would not work without them (e.g. the shopping cart function or displaying videos). Other cookies may be used to analyse user behaviour or for advertising purposes.
Cookies that are necessary to carry out the electronic communication process, to provide certain functions you have requested (e.g. for the shopping cart function) or to optimise the website (e.g. cookies to measure the web audience) (necessary cookies) are stored on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, unless another legal basis is specified. The website operator has a legitimate interest in storing necessary cookies for the technically error-free and optimised provision of its services. If consent to the storage of cookies and comparable recognition technologies has been requested, processing is carried out exclusively on the basis of this consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) TTDSG); consent can be revoked at any time.
You can set your browser so that you are informed about the setting of cookies and only allow cookies in individual cases, exclude the acceptance of cookies for certain cases or in general, and activate the automatic deletion of cookies when closing the browser. If cookies are deactivated, the functionality of this website may be restricted.
If further cookies and services are used on this website, you can find information in this privacy policy.
Server log files
The hosting providers named in Section 2 automatically collect and store information in so-called server log files that your browser automatically transmits. These are in particular:
- Browser type and browser version
- Operating system used
- Referrer URL
- Hostname of the accessing computer
- Time of the server request
- IP address
This data is not merged with other data sources.
This data is collected on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the technically error-free presentation and optimisation of its website – for this purpose, server log files must be recorded.
Enquiries by e-mail, telephone or fax
If you contact us by e-mail, telephone or fax, your enquiry including all personal data resulting from it (name, enquiry) will be stored and processed by us for the purpose of handling your request. We do not pass on this data without your consent.
The processing of this data is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your enquiry is related to the fulfilment of a contract or is necessary for the implementation of pre-contractual measures. In all other cases, processing is based on our legitimate interest in the effective processing of enquiries addressed to us (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) if this has been requested; consent can be revoked at any time.
The data you send to us via contact requests will remain with us until you ask us to delete it, revoke your consent to storage or the purpose for data storage no longer applies (e.g. after your request has been completed). Mandatory statutory provisions – in particular statutory retention periods – remain unaffected.
Map display with Leaflet and Esri
On this website we use the open-source mapping framework Leaflet in combination with map data from Esri (Environmental Systems Research Institute) to display geographic information. The map is embedded as a two-click solution: when the page is opened, only a locally stored preview image is shown at first; a connection to Esri servers is only established once you actively start the map via the “Load map” button. Only then is your IP address transferred to a server operated by Esri and stored there; this may involve a transfer to the USA.
The embedding is based on your consent, which you give by actively loading the map (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG). Without this click, no data is transferred to Esri.
5. Newsletter
Newsletter data
If you would like to receive the newsletter offered on the website, we need an e-mail address from you as well as information that allows us to verify that you are the owner of the e-mail address provided and that you agree to receive the newsletter. No further data is collected, or only on a voluntary basis. We use this data exclusively for sending the requested information and do not pass it on to third parties.
The processing of the data entered in the newsletter registration form is based exclusively on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can revoke the consent you have given to the storage of the data, the e-mail address and its use for sending the newsletter at any time, for example via the “unsubscribe” link in the newsletter. The lawfulness of the data processing operations already carried out remains unaffected by the revocation.
The data you provide us with for the purpose of receiving the newsletter will be stored by us or the newsletter service provider until you unsubscribe from the newsletter and deleted from the newsletter distribution list after you unsubscribe from the newsletter or after the purpose has ceased to apply.
We reserve the right to delete or block e-mail addresses from our newsletter distribution list at our own discretion within the scope of our legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Data stored by us for other purposes remains unaffected by this.
After you unsubscribe from the newsletter distribution list, your e-mail address may be stored by us or the newsletter service provider in a blacklist if this is necessary to prevent future mailings. Data from the blacklist is only used for this purpose and is not merged with other data. This serves both your interest and our interest in complying with legal requirements when sending newsletters (legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Storage in the blacklist is not limited in time. You can object to storage if your interests outweigh our legitimate interest.
Newsletter with Brevo
We use the Brevo service (formerly Sendinblue), a product of Sendinblue GmbH, Köpenicker Straße 126, 10179 Berlin, Germany, to send our newsletter. Brevo is a service with which, among other things, the sending of newsletters can be organised and analysed. The data you enter for the purpose of receiving the newsletter is stored on Brevo’s servers.
If you do not wish analysis by Brevo, you can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. We provide a corresponding link in every newsletter message.
Data processing is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
6. Donations and data processing
If you make a donation to us by bank transfer, we process the payment data you provide (e.g. name, IBAN, reference) exclusively for the purpose of processing the donation and, where applicable, issuing a donation receipt. Processing is based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract) and Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR (legal obligation).
Embedded donation form from betterplace.org
Our donation page embeds the donation form of the donation platform betterplace.org, operated by gut.org gemeinnützige Aktiengesellschaft, Schlesische Straße 26, 10997 Berlin, Germany ("betterplace"). The form is only loaded once you actively open it (for example via the “Project donation” button or by selecting a segment); only then, for technical reasons, are your IP address and browser information transmitted to betterplace. Within the embedded form, betterplace may set its own cookies and use its own analytics services; betterplace is the responsible controller for this.
If you donate via the form, betterplace processes the donation and payment data you enter as an independent controller. The embedding is based on the consent you give by actively opening the form (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG); you may withdraw this consent at any time with effect for the future. Without this click, no data is transmitted to betterplace. The processing of your donation by betterplace is carried out for the performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). For further information, please see the privacy policy of betterplace.org.
